The Passover

There are seven fiest that God commanded the Isralis to observe in the first covenant, three of those were manditory for all Jewish males to attend. The first fiest is Passover, on the 10th day of Nissan the people were told to pick out a Sacrificial Lamb, this lamb was to be a perfect speciman, without defect, they were to keep this lamb until the 14th of Nissan and inspect him repeatedley to make sure he was a perfect sacrifice. Having the lamb for those 4 days and handling him and looking for any problem, would probably make him a pet and part of the family (well almost), then he was to take the lamb to the Priest and lay his hand upon the lamb’s head, as the Priest killed the Lamb as a sacrifice for that family’s sin for the past year, next year this process was repeated again for that year, this went on every year.

On the 10th of Nissan Jesus entered Jerusalem riding on the colt of a donkey that had never been ridden, with the people shouting hosanah (save us now). They were laying palm branches and coats in the pathway into Jerusalem for Jesus, If you have any experience with animals, you know that riding a young , unbroke donkey with all those people around is a big miracle in itself, but then everything, except man obeys God. Jesus entered the Temple and was examined by the priest’ and people there, he was examined like this for several days and even when they brought false witnesses aginst him they found no fault. He then was turned over to the Romans by the High Priest, (Caiphas) and the Roman Prefect (Pilot) had him scourged with a whip that had metal balls on the end, I asssume to see if he was tuthful, his “words are spirit and truth.”

to find out if he was without fault ( brutal but that is the way they did it) Pilot didn’t see anything worthy of death in Jesus and because of his wife’s dream and political liability, tried to pass the buck to Herod Antipass, the governor. Herod sent him back to Pilot, Pilot tried to free him and was afraid of another uprising ( he already had two ), in an attempt to turn Jesus lose, Pilot publically washed his hands and dec;ared he was not guilty of anything, ( in other words declared him a perfect Sacrifice for sins) The sacrifice Jesus made is perfect, the same as the commandment. the day he entered as a lamb (10th of Nissan) the day he was sacrificed, (the 14th of Nissan, declared worthy by Pilot, examined by the Jewish Spiritual Leaders

Pilot had been a prefect in Israel for many years before this encounter with the Lamb Of God, Pilot must have been aware of Jewish tradition and law, if a man was found dead in a field, the leaders of the closest town would gather and kill a heifer and wash their hands over the animal. They then would say, we don’t know who killed this man and we didn’t have any thing to do with it. Pilot was trying to replicate this action by washing his hands and declaring he wasn’t guilty of Jesus blood, Did Father God hold him blameless in this, I doubt it unless he repented, asking for forgiveness. That is the key to relationship with God, repenting, doing a 180 Degree turn in your life and then living for the Lamb.
